“The Luddites:Nottingham’s Response” – A talk by Peter Hammond
December 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
In the early 19th century, local framework knitters faced desperate times. Using the wealth of archives that still survive this talk describes how the authorities attempted to quell the situation and the lengths to which some individuals went to in order to avoid having to take their turn on the nightly patrols! And as a footnote we will discover how East Leake and Rempstone dealt with the issue.
